The CNE celebrated its fourth anniversary on 17th February 2011 in the new meeting room in Caicoli. CNE also took this opportunity to organize a seminar on the theme of “Balance and Projections for the 2012 elections”.

“The CNE was established on the 15th January 2007. However, at that time we decided to postpone it and we are celebrating it today (17th), because the NP and Government Members were still busy with the State General Budget debate, said the President of CNE in his welcome speech.

However, the President of the CNE, Faustino Cardoso Gomes, said that the anniversary of CNE is timely, because through this activity we can share with each other issues on the elections regarding data base updating, preparation for the 2012 elections, and how to better ensure the rights of voters, and the credibility and transparency of the electoral process. In this regard the fourth anniversary of the CNE we organized also a seminar with the theme on Balance and Projections for the 2012 Elections.

At the same time the CNE also launched its bulletin ‘Roman Eleitorál’ through the Vice President of the NP, Vicente Guterres. “The purpose of launchingthis bulletin was to disseminate information to our target audience in general, and especially to all voters who we believe really need information on the election process”, said Commissioner Lucas during his presentation.

“This bulletin is called the ‘Roman Eleitorál’. Roman means that we have enlightened the work of the Commissioners so that they can work in accordance with the motto of CNE to work transparently and impartially, and also this can enlighten voters in rural areas to gain knowledge about the election process. Through this bulletin we aim to disseminate information to sovereign bodies because they do not know about our job and they have said that commissioners only work during elections”, this commissioner stated with regret, who is also in the coordinator of the sub-commission for public relations.

The celebration of the CNE anniversary was also attended by the Vice President of NP, Vicente Guterres, and he gave a presentation on legislative preparations for the 2012 elections. Also, the Director of STAE gave a presentation on the topic of updating the Data Base, as well as discussing Progress and Challenges.

Before the opening of seminar, Father José António also blessed the new meeting room of CNE which was completed by the Adam Construction Company.
