Message of the President

On behalf of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), I would like to greet and welcome all of our visitors to this website.

In 2007, including during the election period, CNE managed to set up its website http://www.cne.tl. A lot of visitors, both national and international received CNE’s services, and were able to monitor general electoral performance during that year through this website. Unfortunately, for more than two years (from 2008 to early of 2011) CNE’s website was not available to the public. This was purely due to technical/financial problems. We recognized these weaknesses and understand that this situation was not favorable for the public in general, especially for our routine visitors. On behalf of the CNE, I also would like to thank everyone for being understanding in relation to the non-availability of this website.

By utilizing our available technical support the CNE is once again open to the public, with the existence of this website. We promise to keep trying to ensure the availability of this website and to ‘update’ this website routinely and presenting information in a manner that we believe is appropriate and convenient to facilitate access to the public and those who wish to visit this website. This website has a new format and structure, corresponding to the way that CNE wishes to present information to its visitors. I am cordially inviting the public to use this opportunity to routinely visit this website. We expect that this website will provide benefits, and constitute a forum where people can consult each other and express their concerns, a forum that will fill information gaps, and also a place to keep track of the performance of this electoral body as well as a place to access electoral acts, and keep abreast of what is being done and what will be done in the future, at both the national and sub-national level. For the CNE, in addition to the issue of ensuring the availability of information in an informative manner, this website also reinforces institutional principles relating to transparency and its requirement to secure intuitional knowledge.

Thank you,
DR. Faustino Cardoso Gomes,Msi.
President of CNE
